In January, members of the e-FabRIC consortium met in Madrid for the third time to review ongoing activities and refine the project’s strategic roadmap. This workshop provided an opportunity for partners to address outstanding challenges and reaffirm the priorities to ensure the successful implementation of the next steps.
Summary of Discussions
Project Objectives and Ambition
Throughout the project, and particularly during these technical meetings, the consortium and the scientific board constantly ensure that the development plan enables the project’s objectives to be achieved. At the same time, specific efforts are being made to define the appropriate regulatory path and facilitate the adoption of this innovative solution in a context where guidelines and regulatory frameworks are still evolving.
e-FabRIC Consortium Update
- Antibody Production
Products obtained using the Adjuvant #1 protocol demonstrate superior seroneutralization in both plasma and F(ab’)2 activity assays compared to those generated with Adjuvant #2. The protocol using Adjuvant #1 will be selected for the subsequent development stages.
- In vivo activity demonstrated
Preliminary data show that the e-FabRIC product significantly reduces lung viral titers in hamsters following intranasal infection with the Wuhan strain.
- Potency test
Full-length RBD ELISA will be used to assess the potency of the e-FabRIC product. The assay showed strong, reproducible signals and clear adjuvant-dependent differences.
Impact and Dissemination
During the General Assembly in Madrid, and in alignment with e-FabRIC’s public affairs (PA) goals, the consortium underlined its focus on securing the sustainability and longevity of the project over the long term. Project partners unanimously recognised that the product developed represents a critical component of pandemic preparedness infrastructure, with its broad-spectrum properties positioning it as an essential candidate for inclusion in national and international stockpiles. The consortium will now initiatethe valorisation part of the project, kickstarting engagement with primary communities who stand to benefit most from the productas well as key opinion leaders (KOLs) to help inform the regulatory pathway and maximise impact.
Following these discussions, consortium partners committed to maintaining close collaboration and regular contact ahead of the next General Assembly of the e-FabRIC project at the start of 2027.
